How to wash and care for your linen

Pure, quality linen is a low maintenance textile, requiring very simple and straightforward care. 

How to wash pure linen

We recommend machine washing your linen in lukewarm water with a quality, gentle detergent. As linen is a highly absorbent fabric, wash separately from other fabrics and colours. We don’t recommend dry cleaning, as we find that a gentle machine wash does a better job at preserving your beautiful linen. 

A few ways to tackle stains in your linen tableware

You may be tired once the party is over, we absolutely see you however we advise that you launder those stains as soon as possible, to prevent it from being absorbed into the fabric and creating permanent damage. The sooner it is cleaned, the better.

Treating stains. Before putting your linen into the machine, we recommend treating any stains so they have the highest chance of coming out in the wash. Washing a stain without pre-treating, could potentially set in the stain into the linen. Not fun. We have found that the most gentle but effective method to remove stains is by addressing the type of stain and dissolving it based on its properties.

To treat wine spills, oil stains or any earth-based food stain, mix equal parts dishwashing detergent, white vinegar and water. Test in an inconspicuous area first. Pour over the stain and gently dab on the affected area with a rag. Allow the mixture to sit on the stain for a few minutes if it is particularly stubborn. Take care to dab gently to protect the linen fibres. The stain will partially or fully lift. Once the stain has been treated, wash as usual.  

When washing, ensure you are using a generous amount of water and the machine isnt too full so the water can do its job and wash those stains away.

Drying your linen

Remove your linen from the washing machine as soon as the cycle is complete. Give the linen a shake to take out those deep creases and hang/lay out to dry. Take the time to position it neatly so your linen will dry with those natural, soft creases that pure linen is well known for, and not require ironing.

We encourage air drying your linen as this method is the easiest on those linen fibres, best preserving your linen while reducing the impact on our environment. If tumble drying, use a low heat setting and remove the linen while slightly damp to keep the fabric feeling nice and soft.
